This 15 minute flight departs from The Huntsman at Holmfirth, West Yorkshire travelling at a height of around 1500 feet.
The helicopter tracks out over the Huddersfield area, via Honley to the ancient Victoria Tower monument, known as Castle Hill in Almondbury. The Tower was completed in 1899 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign. Human movement goes back over 4000 years in this area. The site was established as an Iron Age Hill Fort, bounded by defensive ditches and ramparts. In the Middle Ages a castle stood on the hill, of which only the well now remains. The tower walls are four feet thick at the bottom, narrowing to two feet at the top and reaches a height of almost 997 feet above sea level.
The flight then skirts Farnley Tyas, passing Highburton and Kirkburton, continuing on to the famous Emley Moor Transmitting Mast, which stands 1083 feet tall. The tour returns to the departure point tracking over Shelley, Shepley, Holmfirth and Upperthong. This is a wonderful experience for anyone familiar with the Huddersfield area.
